The primary
purpose of the exhibition is to show the diversity of people and the beauty of
this. Beauty is subjective, we cannot describe it by numbers, and it is even
difficult to give a definition of its meaning. We can clearly state that
attractiveness and aesthetics form a dominant part of what think of beauty.
Society and era surrounding us determines what we find aesthetic.
When taking portrait photos we tried to collect models with different
nationalities and face types to emphasize beauty regardless of differences and
race.
As an effect of globalisation the world opens for us, we can meet more and more
cultures which may be unusual for us, so acceptance needs to be part of our
everyday life. While in the 80s we stared at a black person, now they do not
cause sensation any more. It does not mean that we are immune to differences,
just we are used to the diversity of the world.
Unfortunately living closely together also feeds discrimination and racism. We
believe that if we are able to see the beauty in each other and we can find a
person coming from an absolutely opposite part of the world originating from a
different culture attractive, it will absolutely support to find acceptance and
interest towards the others in ourselves.
A significant question of the 21st century is how much we can accept
each other, other cultures living with us and how much or in what way we can
integrate them into ours. Although this exhibition cannot answer this question,
we hope it will be a good opportunity to start proactive conversations where
even the answers may be born.
