The band was
founded around the turn of the millennium by the leader Mihály Borbély, who is
familiar with folk music, world music, jazz and contemporary music as well, has
won Artisjus, eMeRTON, Knight of the Cross, Gábor Szabó and Liszt-prizes, and
as a member of the Vujicsics band the Kossuth-Prize too, and musician having
similar vision and spirit joined him. The improvisational music they play is an
alloy of various styles of jazz, contemporary music and the folk music heritage
of the Carpathian-Basin and the Balkans saturated by interesting melodic
variations, now by finely transparent, other times by powerful rhythmic
patterns. They played several club and festival concerts in Hungary,
Europe-wide and also in Mexico. In 2004 they won the eMeRTon award as ‘The Jazz
Group of the Year’.
Their first album (Meselia Hill) was chosen as ‘The Hungarian Jazz Album of the
Year’ by the critics of Gramofon. The second CD of the band, ‘Hommage á Kodály’
also achieved huge success among critics and audiences alike. On the band’s
third release (Hungarian Jazz Rhapsody, 2014) they made a remake of Hungarian
hits and jazz songs. Their latest album (‘Be By Me Tonight’) has been released
by BMC, just like the previous three.
