Papajazz was
founded in Budapest by professional musicians in 2005. The band was
originally a quartet and every member was a big fan of the so called ‘old
school’ jazz although none of them had really dealt with this style before.
Their first
record was ‘Papajazz’, which came out in 2006. There was a replacement among
the members in 2009 and after that the band became keen on the music of the
1920s, 30s, and 40s. At the beginning of 2013 another musician joined the band
and in 2014 they had a huge success at the 10-day La Rochelle Dixie-Jazz Festival
in France.
In summer 2015
they recorded their second album, where Scott Robinson, the incredible figure
of the jazz society of New York was their guest for two songs, he played the taragot
(Turkish pipe). In summer 2016 the performed the album ‘My Blue Heaven’ in the
Palace of Arts and at the Swing Festival in New Orleans with Scott as the guest
performer.
In 2017 the
band made its third album ‘Let’s Dance’, which is definitely for the fans of
swing dance and for swing dancers.
Whether we
are in a small pub or in a huge concert hall, they play enjoyable and
entertaining music for the audience. There are several well-known and
less-known hits of this era in their repertoire. They often accept the
invitation to special requests such as swing dance festivals or providing
background music to private events.
