Equinox pays
modern mainstream jazz and they have had concerts at several jazz festivals
during their career in the country and abroad. Their repertoire consists of the
pieces by the Ferenc Erkel awarded composer and orchestra leader Tibor Márkus,
which are characterised by using modern compositional element, melody and easy
to perceive.
Really
versatile musicians have met in this orchestra. István Elek has been the
member of Equinox since 2018, who was voted to be the best baritone saxophonist
of the year 2017 by the readers and editing colleagues of JazzMa and musician.
The two singers have their own successful careers but they can also show new
colours from themselves in this formation. This very interesting and intensive
music sometimes goes to electronic or fusional direction but sometimes the
singers make the music more melodic or very rhythmical or almost free jazz. Tibor
Márkus has a special talent for different styles because as a teacher he knows
every trend very well and the genre and character pieces composed from them
create a unified concordance.
‘The music
teacher, pianist journalist, composer, orchestra leader culture missionary man
and festival organiser Tibor Márkus is one person though we often have the
feeling that he is a whole institute. He strenuously teaches jazz and makes it
popular, he has not only taught pianist majoring for this for decades but any
musical students who are open and interested in this one hundred-year old
genre.’
