The First
World War and the concomitant shortage of medicines drew attention to herbs and
plants containing volatile oil. This is when chamomile got a worldwide fame
among the collected herbs and became a ‘national product’. The medicine and tea
shortage of the Second World War gave a new zest to research herbs and plants
containing volatile oil, the trade of their growing and the development of the
processing methods have become a huge success despite the economic paradoxes. Natural
vegetable substances have played a cardinal role in the development of modern
pharmaceutical industry all over the world. There are huge potentials in
growing and processing herbs and it may play an important role in developing
the countryside.
