You, who are reading these lines. You don’t know much about me as we don’t know each other. We haven’t met personally and haven’t talked before. You need time to get a picture of me. Maybe my pictures tell you more about me than words.
But let me introduce myself.
My name is Gyula Terebesi. I am Hungarian. I was born in the Czech Republic on 27th June 1957, on László Day, which is only interesting because my father’s name is László. I went to school, as it is normal. I did my GSCE in Kosice. I went to a technical secondary school. I started taking photos approximately at the age of 15. An old East German camera was a Christmas present from my parents. I also learned how to develop photographs. After school I had to do a military service for two years, just like every good citizen. I was lucky. I did my service in one of the most beautiful cities of Europe, in Prague. At the moment I am a Slovakian citizen. The two years in Prague had a great influence on me. I met this amazing city and the Czech people. I continued taking photos in Prague with a borrowed camera. When those years were over in Prague, I got home, family, children and trouble came. I was about thirty when I really started dealing with photography. I learned the science of photography myself. Mostly from books which I found in second hand bookshops. I obviously bought fresh literature as well. I spend most of my time with my partner in Laxenburg at the moment. I am getting to know to Laxenburg and its neighbourhood.
By the time the exhibitions came, too, which were organised and supported by the amateur visual arts association TICCE. I have been the member of the TICCE Club for almost twenty years. My first exhibitions were at my home place in Királyhelmec, and then my photos got to other places in the region. I dare to say that many people got to know the beautiful landscapes of ‘Bodrogköz’ through my pictures. The venues of my exhibitions are getting broader and broader: Kosice, Hungary- Mezőkövesd, Záhony, Kisvárda, Budapest.
